my comments from the YouTube Video
These comments respond to those made by other participants as well as the 7 main concepts presented by the website:
1. Students spend too much time interacting with computers and TVs outside of the classroom. Spending more time on them may not be as positive as this video would have you believe. (posted 10/23 at 9pm)
2. (4 key components = click on a link)- Technology fails, if you have all lessons on-line you’ll have nothing to teach if the school loses internet connection. (posted 10/19 at 10pm)
3. Students use technology outside of the classroom. They are digital natives so they will not have a problem with a lack of computer skills. (posted 10/24 at 1040pm) a.& (reposted 10/30 at 940pm)
4. Objective tests limit the teacher’s interaction with their students work. The grading process is an important part of teaching. (posted 11/12 at 1047am)
5. Learning through games has its merits, but if kids grow-up seeing life as a game. An important part of life lessons are learned in schools through the process that is used in order to teach as well as the lessons themselves. (posted 10/24 at 1040pm)
6. Teachers can keep students engaged through conversation. Individual learning limits students because it’s through classroom discussions that people relate to each other and can learn how to build a thought of their own based on another students comment. We are already noticing a disconnection between people. For instance; go to lunch at restaurant and look around. You’ll see kids and parents on computer devices and spouses/significant others paying more attention to their phones than each other. Schools are one of the few places left where people learn to interact face to face. (posted 10/19 at 10pm)
7. Learning from the experts is a good ideas, but it should be the teacher that presents the lesson to the class. There is something to be said for independent learning, but students should learn from their teacher.(posted 10/30 at 940pm)
