Core values of the Writing Arts major
1. Writing Arts students will demonstrate understanding of a variety of genre conventions and exhibit rhetorical adaptability in applying those conventions.
- writing is a physical act. -writers block is physical not mental - (Drew proposes) - try to just start writing.
-
2. Writing Arts students will understand theories of writing and reading and be able to apply them to their own writing.
- understanding and identifying controlling values and then applying them to assignments like the Wikipedia
3. Writing Arts students will demonstrate the ability to critically read complex and sophisticated texts in a variety of subjects.
- We read through things for our annotated bibliography = understand what you are reading and bring it into the project.
- to be critical is to decern how something works and then be able to interact with it appropriately.
4. Writing Arts students will be able to investigate, discover, evaluate and incorporate material into the creation of text.
- This class is all bout this CORE VALUE
- a breakdown results in learning and potentially caring about it and evaluate how to apply and incorporate it.
5. Writing Arts students will demonstrate self-critical awareness of their writing.
- reflect on your writing while you blogged and as you write the cover memo.
6. Writing Arts students will understand the impact evolving technologies have on the creation of written texts.
- what does it mean to "impact" - it alters who you are. without change, there is no impact - no break down, no change
7. Writing Arts students will show an understanding of the power of the written word and that such power requires ethical responsibilities in its application.
- The speaker Tim was helping us realize that we need to think about what we write because it will leave a trail that will allow others to get to know us. We need to think about how we want to be know before we write
8. Writing Arts students will be familiar with the current standards and dynamic nature of grammar, mechanics, and usage and will be able to apply them appropriately.
- This is required in order to summarize and write effectively
9. Writing Arts students will have knowledge of the post-graduate options available to them in professions and/or graduate studies.
- We can now apply this to look for work. - we can use it in conjunction with our resume.
- You could record and show yourself in the setting of the classroom (don't record the students) - just you in the clips...
- just dabbling with all these assignments and what we learned will help us adapt them to our profession
